Gabriela Mendoza Announces her candidacy for Suffolk County Register of Deeds' To face off against incumbent Stephen Murphy

Statement from the Mendoza Campaign 9/17:

"Today, after much encouragement, motivation and support from my family and friends I am excited to announce that I, Gabriela Mendoza, am running for the office of Register of Deeds for Suffolk County.

I will be facing the incumbent, Stephen Murphy, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts election being held on Tuesday, November 6th, 2018.

I have been in the Boston area for almost 25 years and have come to feel that Boston is home. I live and work here: I have established a law practice, moved my family across the U.S. and I bought a home in Boston I have been fortunate and am grateful; because of those feelings, I become involved with community groups and organizations as a way of giving.

I see the position of Register of Deeds as another way for me to give back to my community: to be an active advocate for the citizens of Suffolk County by providing information and educational resources involving real estate and home ownership, while ensuring the recording and preservation of real estate records in a reliable and professional manner.

I will be meeting and seeing as many Suffolk County residents from now until the election on November 6th.

If time prevents me from meeting you, I am asking for your support and your vote!"

Gabriela Mendoza grew up in southern California. She attended Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles, where she studied political science and philosophy. After graduating from Mount Saint Mary’s in 1994, Gabriela moved to Boston to attend Suffolk University Law School. Gabriela was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1997 and the New Hampshire Bar in 1999. Gabriela owns a house in Boston and has two rescue dogs.

BPPA, FOP Join First Responders Supporting Henning in Race to Replace Outgoing Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley

BOSTON – Today, candidate for Suffolk County District Attorney Greg Henning received the endorsement of the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association (BPPA), which represents patrol officers in the Boston Police Department. Henning also today received the endorsement of the Massachusetts Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), which represents police officers throughout the state.

The police unions join the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, Boston Firefighters Local 718, Revere Fire Fighters Local 926, the Latino Law Enforcement Group of Boston, former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, and outgoing Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley as first responders and public safety leaders supporting Henning in the race for Suffolk County District Attorney.

Outgoing DA Dan Conley Endorses Greg Henning For Suffolk County District Attorney

BOSTON – Candidate for Suffolk County District Attorney Greg Henning today received the endorsement of outgoing Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley.

Conley will join Henning to talk to voters at a door-to-door campaign canvass in Hyde Park on Saturday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m., starting in Cleary Square, at the corner of Hyde Park Avenue and River Street.

“Greg Henning’s unparalleled experience makes him the clear choice to serve as the next Suffolk County District Attorney,” said Conley. “Greg has proven himself to be a leader among his peers in smart prosecution and community engagement. The next District Attorney needs to prioritize public safety while continuing Suffolk County’s leadership in reforming prosecution practices, such as expanding the state’s first Conviction Integrity Program. From his plan to address unsolved shootings, to his proposed Law Enforcement Early Diversion mentoring program, Greg has proven he is ready to do this job, and I am proud to endorse him.”

Greg has worked in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office under DA Dan Conley for ten years and currently serves as Chief of the office’s Gang Unit. In 2013, he returned to the DA’s office and has been there since.

“District Attorney Dan Conley has worked to keep the residents of Suffolk County safe for 16 years. Under his leadership, the Suffolk County DA’s office has implemented strategies that helped reduce incarceration by 40 percent countywide, started a process to deal with police-involved shootings known as the “Boston Model” that has delivered unprecedented levels of transparency, and dedicated more resources to working with victims and witnesses of violent crime to ensure their safety and protection,” said Henning. “I am honored to have his support in this campaign so I can build on the work he’s done as Suffolk County’s next DA.”

Candidate Farmer pushes Massport to reduce pollution at Logan

Candidate Farmer pushes Massport to reduce pollution at Logan

(East Boston, MA September 8, 2017)--Citing concern for the environment in the neighborhoods directly surrounding Logan Airport, Margaret Farmer, Candidate for Boston City Council, has called on Massport to work with the City of Boston to fund, explore, and implement a number of solutions aimed at reducing pollution and increasing the quality of life for the community surrounding Logan Airport.

“As instances asthma and COPD continue to increase in our neighborhoods it is important to measure benchmarks of the current environment. Massport needs to fund an independent source to produce a scientific, peer-reviewed environmental study to serve as a benchmark on air quality,” said Farmer. “We should know what’s going on in our environment, and this study could cover a broad range of data, such as ultra-fine particulate matter. Local community groups like AIR, Inc. have been asking for this for many years.”

Farmer also supports State Representative Adrian Madaro’s proposal for the installation of “Real Time” tracking devices around the airport and within East Boston to allow for the monitoring of noise and air pollution. “Making data like this available to the public allows for more transparency, and it’s an opportunity for others to look at the data and find innovative solutions for pollution reduction,” she added.

Another area Farmer sees an opportunity for Massport to work with the surrounding community is by funding the NOAH Tree Cover Project. This project, started by local East Boston students, aims to increase tree cover in East Boston from its current 15% to 30%, the average for the City. More trees will lead to less reflected heat and light on paved surfaces, increased water retention from rain, and more natural filtration of the air. “This is a great local initiative where Massport can look to increase trees in the neighborhood, especially since the airport runways reflect so much heat, and trees can’t be planted along them,” added Farmer.

Farmer also advocates for new technology “We are seeing exciting changes happening, in Denmark especially, where large air filters are being placed around airports to collect ultra-fine particulate matter and combat the amount of carbon monoxide in the air. As MASSPORT is planning to build a garage with 5,000 additional parking spaces in the community, this is something we should consider.”

Margaret Farmer is currently running to represent District 1 in the Boston City Council. District 1 includes East Boston, Charlestown, and the North End. You can read more about her positions on Massport and other issues at http://margaretfarmerforboston.org

Passacantilli Campaign Knocks on 8,000th Door

Boston City Council District 1 Race Passacantilli
BOSTON – Stephen Passacantilli's campaign for Boston City Council District 1 has announced a major milestone.  This past week, the campaign knocked on their 8,000th door and leads all other campaigns in social media engagement with over 1,300 Facebook followers.

Passacantilli is a North End civic leader, Boston Public Schools parent, and former staffer to City Councilor Sal LaMattina.

Passacantilli said, "I am so proud of the strong grassroots campaign we are building.  We've been out knocking on doors and calling voters in East Boston, Charlestown, and the North End, and the response has been incredible.  As past head of my local neighborhood council, I know how important it is to hear directly from residents about the issues that matter to them.  That's why we're so focused on going directly to residents to discuss our platform and hear their concerns.  As a lifelong Bostonian with kids in the Boston Public Schools, I'll bring a unique perspective and experience to the Boston City Council.  Residents of District 1 deserve a City Councilor who will take the lead on issues like public safety, education, addiction and recovery, and development.  On the City Council, I will always put you first."

Just last month, Passacantilli became the only candidate to open campaign offices in each of the district's three neighborhoods.

Many know Passacantilli from his years of public service across Boston. He is a lifelong resident of the North End where he has been deeply involved as past president of his local civic association and through local charities and community organizations like North End Against Drugs (NEAD) and the North End Beautification Committee. Michael Sinatra on his decision not to seek the District 1 city council seat

Sent to Eastboston.com today:
"After much discussion with my fiancée and family, I have decided to withdraw from the City Council race. I am getting married in August, so I have many life events to look forward to in the coming months and I want to be able to enjoy this happy and exciting time in my life. With that in mind, it would be unfair to me as well as all the residents of District 1 if I cannot give this campaign the undivided attention that it deserves. Therefore, at this moment in time I have decided to explore other job opportunities that would allow me more time to spend with my new wife and family."
Michael Sinatra, is currently Chief of Staff for Councilor Salvatore LaMattina, who earlier this year announced that he would not seek re-election.

New England Regional Council of Carpenters Endorses Diana Hwang for State Senate

Source: Hwang Campaign

(Boston, MA 3/2/2016)– The New England Regional Council of Carpenters today endorsed Democrat Diana Hwang for State Senate.  Hwang, a local non-profit founder and former State House staffer, is a candidate to replace Anthony Petruccelli in the Democratic primary special election for Massachusetts’ First Suffolk and Middlesex State Senate District.

“We're proud to endorse Dianna because she understands and cares about the issues in our industry and in our members' day-to-day lives. The construction trades have traditionally provided career options with good pay and good benefits for those who aren't able or willing to follow the college path. Unfortunately, we've seen industry standards eroded as too many vulnerable workers have been the victims of contractors and an underground economy that thrives on wage theft, misclassification and dangerous worksites,” said Mark Erlich, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, New England Regional Council of Carpenters. “We're confident that Diana's knowledge and experience will help us in our fight to provide justice, safety, training and jobs with good wages and benefits for all of the workers in our industry, whether they belong to a union or not.”

“I’m a candidate for State Senate because I will be a voice for working families, which is why I’m proud to have the Carpenters by my side in this race,” Hwang remarked. “The Carpenters have been fighting for living wages, health care, quality jobs, safe working conditions and other critically important issues for many years. I have spent my career working within the system to change the system so that families like the ones represented by the Carpenters have a voice on Beacon Hill. If elected I will work as a full partner with the Carpenters on issues I know are important to both of us – and to the people of the First Suffolk & Middlesex District.”

The NERCC represents over 20,000 carpenters, pile drivers, shop & millmen, and floorcoverers working in the New England States, including all across Massachusetts. NERCC is part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, one of North America’s largest building trades unions, with nearly a half-million members in the construction and wood-products industries.

The daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, Diana Hwang is the founder of the Asian-American Women’s Political Initiative – the country’s first political leadership organization for young Asian-American women.  She previously served as a legislative aide in the State House and a Chief of Staff in the Boston City Council.  Diana serves as Board member of the UMass Center for Women in Politics, served as co-chair of the Boston Women’s Fund and is a founding member of Mayor Walsh’s Women’s Commission.  Diana currently lives in East Boston and previously lived in Revere.

(East Boston, January 22, 2016) Registered Democrats in East Boston will be holding a caucus at the Mario Umana Academy on February 27, 2016 at 10:00am to elect eighteen (18) delegates and three (3) alternates to the 2016 Massachusetts Democratic Convention, where Democrats from across Massachusetts will gather to adopt a new Action Agenda.

The Convention will be held on Saturday, June 4th at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell.

“This is going to be an exciting year as we Massachusetts Democrats work on the presidential election, both here in Massachusetts and across the country,” commented Democratic National Committee Woman, Kate Donaghue. “In addition to the normal proceedings, the June convention is going to focus on training in party building, electoral techniques and issue-based organizing.”

The caucus is open to all registered Democrats in East Boston, and the Democratic Committee welcomes participants. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret.

In the spirit of inclusion, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be “add-on” delegates.
