March 3: Boston Ward 1 Committee to elect delegates to Democratic State Convention



Registered Democrats in Boston Ward 1 will hold a caucus on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the BCYF Paris Street Community Center, 112 Paris Street, to elect delegates and alternates to the 2018 Massachusetts Democratic State Convention.

This year’s state convention will be held June 1-2 at the DCU Center in Worcester, where thousands of Democrats from across the state will come together to endorse Democratic candidates for statewide office, including Constitutional Officers and gubernatorial candidates.

The caucus is open to all registered and pre-registered Democrats in Boston Ward 1. Pre-registered Democrats who will be 18 by September 18, 2018 will be allowed to participate and run as a delegate or alternate. Boston Ward 1 can elect 19 delegates and 4 alternates to the Convention.

Youth, minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ individuals who are not elected as a delegate or alternate may apply to be an add-on delegate at the caucus or at www.massdems.org.

Ward 1 Democrats elect delegates to state convention


Registered Democrats in East Boston held a caucus at the Mario Umana Academy on March 3, 2017 to elect twenty (20) delegates and four (4) alternates to the 2017 Massachusetts Democratic Convention, where Democrats from across Massachusetts will gather to adopt a new Party Platform.

The Convention will be held on Saturday, June 3rd at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell.

The ten (10) female delegates elected were:
Lydia Edwards,
Fi Nguyen,
Vicki Dzinzidashvili,
Jane O'Reilly,
Celeste Ribeiro Myers,
Susanna Starrett,
Magdalena Ayed,
Margaret Farmer,
Sandra Aleman-Nijjar and
Claudia Y. Correa.

The nine (9) male delegates elected were:
Joe Ruggiero,
David Halbert,
Adrian Velazquez,
Anthony Gesualdi,
Zachary Hollopeter,
John Ribeiro,
Phil Brangiforte,
Stephen Mazzarella and
Richard Carvalho.

There were also three (3) alternates elected and they were
Claudia Sierra,
Richard Carvalho and
Liana LaMattina.

The following Massachusetts Democrats shall serve as ex-officio Delegates to the Convention with full voting privileges:
Adrian Madaro, State Representative,
Carol Aloisi, Treasurer Democratic State Party,
Gabriela Coletta, State Committeewoman, and
Michael Sulprizio, Chairman Ward 1 Democratic Committee.

In the spirit of inclusion, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be add-on delegates, either at their caucus or online at www.massdems.org

March 4: East Boston Democrats to elect delegates to state convention

Registered Democrats in East Boston will be holding a caucus at the Mario Umana Academy, 312 Border Street, on March 4th at 11:00am to elect twenty (20) delegates and four (4) alternates to the 2017 Massachusetts Democratic Convention, where Democrats from across Massachusetts will gather to adopt a new Party Platform. The Convention will be held on Saturday, June 3rd at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. 

“People are excited about politics and want to make a difference. Our caucuses are a great opportunity for those who are interested to get involved,” commented Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford. “Delegates will be voting on our Party Platform in Lowell, and we want to make sure that every Democrat has a voice. This is a time to come together and speak to our shared Democratic values.” 

The caucus is open to all registered and pre-registered Democrats in East Boston, and the Democratic Committee welcomes participants. Pre-registered Democrats who will be age 18 by Sept 11, 2018, the anticipated date of the primary, will be able to participate in caucuses and run for delegate. 

Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret. In the spirit of inclusion, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be add-on delegates, either at their caucus or online at www.massdems.org
